{"id":7802,"date":"2018-07-10T12:11:27","date_gmt":"2018-07-10T10:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/?p=7802"},"modified":"2018-07-10T12:11:27","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T10:11:27","slug":"geology-weekend-2-15-17-june-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/?p=7802","title":{"rendered":"Geology weekend (2). 15- 17 June 2018."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And finally we come to Borakalalo!\u00a0\u00a0 Many of us have been chomping at the bit to visit Bora of which we have heard many a tale.\u00a0\u00a0 The road there is interesting to say the least, but dodging potholes and pothole \u201crepairers\u201d was certainly worth it.<\/p>\n<p>From the moment we arrived we knew that Bora is very different from Pilanesberg.\u00a0 There is a much more \u201cwilderness\u201d feel to the Fish Eagle camp site \u2013 for one the grass is longer and the regular call of the fish eagles gives it a different feel.<\/p>\n<p>Night fell quite suddenly and with it came the cold!\u00a0 Couldn\u2019t say we weren\u2019t warned.<\/p>\n<p>SATURDAY, 16<sup>th<\/sup> June 2018<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday a number of half frozen aspiring Honorary Officers (HO\u2019s) crawled out of their respective tents in strange and wonderful attire. We even had a Panda amongst us!\u00a0 It took a while for us all to thaw, and then it was off to the lecture hall.<\/p>\n<p>What an honour to meet and enjoy the lectures by Prof. \u00a0Judith Kinnaird.\u00a0\u00a0 She is exceedingly knowledgeable and has the rare quality of igniting excitement about \u2026\u2026\u00a0 wait for it \u2026.\u00a0 ROCKS!<\/p>\n<p>We learnt much about the wonders of nature beneath our feet.\u00a0 We played with stones and pebbles, with acid and glass, and rocks and rocks (and more rocks).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_01.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7799\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"970\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_01.jpg 970w, https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_01-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_01-768x367.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_01-672x321.jpg 672w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Listening to the stone stories of the old quarry<\/em><\/p>\n<p>An interesting visit to the old quarry followed, where Judith, Ian and Bevan read the stories told by the cliffs around us.\u00a0 I for one will never drive past a quarry again without wondering what the writing in the walls are whispering about, what secrets they can tell and what they have witnessed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_02.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7796\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_02.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_02-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_02-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bushveld-mosaic.org.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/082018_Geol_2_02-672x504.jpg 672w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Keeping warm at the bonfire<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday evening the whole group met around a lovely bonfire where we talked and chatted about everything under the sun.\u00a0 Bevan proved to be a \u201cmaster breadmaker\u201d and had us all coveting a beautiful cheese and peppadew loaf.\u00a0\u00a0 He kindly shared generous helping with us all.<\/p>\n<p>SUNDAY, 17<sup>th<\/sup> June 2018<\/p>\n<p>Sunday\u2019s lectures blew a couple of minds.\u00a0 Judith has the amazing ability to entice and tease, and make a difficult subject interesting.
