Taxonomy and Ecology 27 – 29 January 2023

If a mosaic is defined as a pattern produced by arranging small pieces of stone,
then I believe I have been placed in the most vibrant of all mosaics!

and so 2023 starts with a group of 16 students ready to learn and unlearn

We are different people from different walks of life, all arranged together for a year to gain a deeper understanding of the complex and exciting mosaic that is nature.

Our knowledgeable team of mentors and facilitators watched in amusement as we debated on subjects surprising yet pertinent to ecology. Perhaps they shook their heads observing us in clothing not yet suited for an amble in the wild? A lecturer might have been despairing at what some of us thought we knew about nature. One thing we all agreed on however, was the privilege to sit around a fire in the evenings as we formed new friendships. Or even waking up early to enjoy a short hour of game viewing before class began.

I am finding this course to be an unlearning for myself. A new adventure of discovering not only what lurks beneath the surface of the bushveld, but also, who I am and where I fit in the greater mosaic that is nature!

“Unlearning is essential part of evolving …. And evolving is essential part of finding yourself.”
