Web report by Tebogo Ivan Lekabe
Due to unforeseen traffic congestion, we arrived late at Borakalalo National Park. When I arrived around 18:00, and the gates were already closed by park officials. The team assisted me with opening the gates to write a one-hour ecology and taxonomy test from 19:00 to 20:00. After writing, around 20:15, we immediately drove to the camping site to pitch our tents.
Saturday, around 08:00, we started the Geology module with Mr Patric Richards, who introduced the formation of rocks, including igneous and sedimentary rocks. These provided the importance of formation and valuable insights into the region’s tectonic history and geological processes.
Saturday after lunch, we drove to Pitjane Hill to identify different types of rocks as part of our practical work. We identified several types of rocks and indications of complex tectonic evolution in the area.
After site visits and geological sites, we drove back to the camping site for the Wetlands team to prepare the fire for a braai. We prepared our dinner meal after long sessions of geology.
On Sunday morning, we were all prepared to attend the last session of geology, which ran from 08:00 to 12:00. Patrick used a collection of metamorphic rocks to explain the mineral composition and geological history.
The Geology module at Borakalalo National Park was informative and productive. The observations and site visits will contribute significantly to our understanding of the region’s geology.
Thank you very much. See you for Veld Management.
